A phone standing upright in the centre of a dark slate field, outlined in glowing amber, its screen showing a small event app: a header bar, a schedule of time-stamped rows, a play diagram, and a comment thread. Faint slate outlines of a desert city skyline run along the bottom of the frame. Above the phone, three amber nodes joined by a dashed line trace the path from a first build, to a deploy, to an update made from the phone itself.

Going to Vegas: I Just Built an App

I was heading to Las Vegas for a sporting event for my son and trying to organize all of the information the coaches had sent through.

I grabbed all the content from the website they had shared, the prep emails, the updates, and the key reminders.

Pretty good artifacts, wrong format

I put everything into Claude and started working. The outputs were pretty good as Claude artifacts, but then I had to figure out how to share them.

I started by taking screenshots of the artifacts so I could get them to him on his iPhone. That wasn't the right format, and it was going to be too hard for him to find everything. I thought about sharing a doc with him, but that was going to be way too complex.

Then I realized: I'm just going to build an app.

An app for one weekend

I built an application specifically for the event.

I knew Wi-Fi would be limited, so I made sure the caching was set up properly. I needed a database so he could add comments, and a place to upload videos. Netlify gave me the database, Blobs, and caching, and deployed the entire site.

Then I made it really easy for him to share the app with his friends, so everyone was on the same page throughout the weekend. It had:

  • Where they needed to be, and when
  • The coaches who would be there, with background on each one
  • The plays and information they needed to be prepared for

It became something they kept coming back to all weekend.

The workflow followed me to Vegas

One of the most interesting parts for me was how the workflow evolved.

I started the project in Claude and deployed it to Netlify. But once I was in Las Vegas and away from my computer, I still needed to make updates as the weekend went on. That's when I started using Agent Runners alongside the work I had originally built in Claude.

My workflow became:

Claude → Netlify → Agent Runners

I could keep building and updating the application directly from my phone while we were at the event.
